Truflation Index - UK Product Update - May 2025
Truflation is pleased to announce a significant update to our UK Inflation Index, as part of our ongoing mission to provide the most granular, accurate, and real-time inflation data available for the UK economy.
This upgrade enhances our methodology by expanding data sources, refining category definitions, and improving historical consistency.
What’s New in the Update
This release includes three major enhancements:
- New Data Provider: Trivago
Trivago has been integrated as a source for real-time pricing in the travel and accommodation sector, improving our coverage of one of the most dynamic categories in consumer spending. - Refined Food Category Composition
We’ve reorganized the Food basket by reassigning commodities into more precise subcategories and adjusting their relative weights, enhancing the accuracy of price change detection within the category. - Updated Historical Data from Key Providers
Historical datasets from Kantar, Ofgem, and Property Data have been updated, leading to more consistent estimates across the following categories:- Food
- Housing
- Household Items
- Health
- Utilities
- Alcohol & Tobacco
- Clothing
- Education
- Recreation & Culture
- Other
Impact of the Update
This update builds on an already robust measurement system that tracks over 8 million individual goods and services in the UK.
Following the revision, the Truflation UK Inflation Index now shows a year-over-year CPI of 2.8%, offering a more detailed and accurate reflection of real-world price dynamics.
To ensure historical consistency, these changes have been retroactively applied back to January 2010.
